Many observers focus on technologies or communication networks.
The discussion frequently centers on the systems exchanging information.
The structural capability allowing independent systems to communicate through shared rules receives less attention.
While reviewing developments across infrastructure, governance, healthcare, finance, logistics, manufacturing, scientific research, transportation, and digital systems, I found myself paying less attention to individual technologies and more attention to the protocols enabling reliable coordination between interconnected systems.
