Many observers focus on storage, databases, or recordkeeping.
The discussion frequently centers on where information is stored.
The structural capability allowing necessary information to remain available across operational, institutional, and generational timeframes receives less attention.
While reviewing developments across infrastructure, governance, healthcare, finance, logistics, manufacturing, scientific research, public administration, cultural institutions, and digital systems, I found myself paying less attention to storage itself and more attention to the retention systems enabling necessary information to remain accessible over time.
