Backup remains one of the most important yet least visible capabilities supporting modern civilization.
Infrastructure depends on backup.

Many observers focus on copies, duplicate files, stored records, spare resources, replicated data, or secondary storage.
The discussion frequently centers on the existence of additional copies.
The structural capability allowing resources to remain recoverable after primary resources become unavailable receives less attention.
While reviewing developments across infrastructure, governance, healthcare, finance, logistics, manufacturing, scientific research, public administration, engineering, communication networks, archives, and digital systems, I found myself paying less attention to individual copies and more attention to the backup systems enabling resources to remain recoverable after disruption or loss.
